First draft on the beegirl costume. It still needs a little something more black on the upper body, I think -- perhaps a low-slung leather collar or a black velvet scarf. But I'm overall pleased with it.
This is definitely an outfit that requires an assistant. I of course need to be laced into the corset. Although I actually have the eyes mounted on a pair of glasses behind the mask, the holes in the eyes are tiny and only allow limited tunnel vision, plus they tend to fog up after a bit. Also, the boots have 4" heels, which means I may want a bit of help navigating stairs and the like. (If anyone wants to volunteer to accompany me for a while one night at Midwest FurFest, you will be richly rewarded.)
I'm aiming for disturbing, yet sexy. What do you think?

One idea for the head--I could make you a great mask from an old army surplus gas mask I have. I've always thought it looked disturbingly insectoid. Have always wanted to actually do something with it. How about, I make a mask just for fun and give it to you at MFF--then you can decide if it actually works with the costume or not.
Hey, I'm actually going to a mask making/women's circle get together this weekend--I could even start working on it there!
One more comment--you look just too cute! I don't know if I'm suffering from body-image envy or developing a crush...:)

Date: 2002-10-18 07:59 am (UTC)Stll haven't quite worked out the stinger. I've got a fabric bit from the wing backs hat I was going to move to the butt; alternately, I may make something more substantial in black velveteen. Got any? :)

Date: 2002-10-18 08:16 am (UTC)I do have some back velveteen scraps; I think that would look good for a stinger. Does your corset lace up the back? I've made a couple of tails that lace right into the last set of lower eyelets on the corset. It works pretty good--you just need to figure our how much of a gap you have bewteen the eyelets and if you need to add any length to a plaquet so the tail sits at an appropriate spot.

i had an idea for the eyes, even on a gas mask. i bet you could find a remnant of gold or black metallic fabric for a couple bucks at a craft store. if you dipped it in stiffener and molded it to a large (sugar) easter egg mold, you'd have almost those eyes above when you lifted it clear. the fabric is really thin and fairly see through-able. not that easy to pick out features underneathe it though.
this idea could be adopted to cover eye-holes of a gas mask.
