I don't usually pay much attention to the fortunes that come out of the cookies at the end of Chinese restaurant meals, though I always make sure to read them. I always eat at least half the cookie, no matter how stale, if I want to accept that fortune as my own, but leave the whole cookie untouched if I choose to reject that fate. Occasionally they get saved -- for a while, I carried a little piece of laminate plastic with two white slips of paper embedded in it. The first was a pure expression of pure fortune: "Serious trouble will bypass you". The second was strangely evocative, and unlike any other I had ever recieved: "Because of your melodic nature, the moonlight never misses an appointment".

Sunday night's dinner offered me some fortunes which, if not predictive, were at least inspirational toward some choices I made later on. This led me to thinking: what messages could I offer people, to delight and inspire them, messages which could not come from our local eatery, but would be desperately needed? I'm a pretty decent chef, and I've got a recipe for fortune cookies that I think ought to work. I'm thinking of making cookies to give away to people at Midwest Fur Fest, the next convention I expect to attend.

There are a few obvious messages in my mind, of course:
"You will fall desperately in love with a sexy tigress."
"You will buy many many copies of World Tree."
But perhaps these aren't the messages we need.

Be my oracle, oh you friends and lovers! If I were to offer you the chance to feed the world your words in a crunchy sugary package, what would you say?

New friends
