I'm going to be selling my wares at Halloween in December in New Jersey on Saturday, including lots of cool incense stuff that I just got in and haven't had time to throw on the website. There will be trick or treating -- I have lollipops and 1" buttons that say "I (heart) burning stuff" -- and vending, and dress up, and performances. I will be wearing tiger ears, and fangs, and you can't beat that.

Jeff's a good guy and runs a good event. I'd like to see this one succeed, even separate from wanting to make a few bucks.

See you there, I hope!

I took Rhys out for a little errand after it got dark this afternoon, over to our local nursery to get pine garland for the house. I pointed out a few of the lit houses in the neighborhood to help him get his eye on for pretty decorations. I told him we were going to decorate in our house, but not with lights or things on the house, just some green things in the house. He seemed a little disappointed, but basically satisfied.

In my world growing up, somehow a big part of being Jewish was actually more being not-Christian than anything else. Philosophically, I'm pagan these days, and bringing Yule into my home with lovely pine roping, and maybe a wreath on the door, seems right. But I could never have a tree in my home, or lights on the outside of the house. Not having those is in my blood still, somehow.

Though once Rhys is old enough to really push me on this, if he does, I'll probably give in. After all, I've kinda sorta secretly wanted to do that since I was about six.

There's a lady in my Fellowship who lights her tree in her home the old German way, with real candles. I hope she invites us to see it again this year. I wish I had the guts, or the skill, to do that.

I've promised myself that I won't go into a mall again between now and New Year's. We ended up there on Black Friday, due to some poor planning I won't get into, and I had a headache and a deep welling anger inside my body within minutes. If I haven't bought a gift for someone yet, I'll be making it or purchasing it online.

Sorry for the heavy mercantile nature of this journal lately. I seem to not be wanting to produce personal content riht now, but I'm selling giant boatloads of stuff. Like my whole swapbox of BPAL stuff. It's probably got a market value of $100 or so, but I've started the biddling at $0.99. Also, it's not showing up right on searches for BPAL for some reason, so I'm not sure it's going to get the traffic it needs, but hey.

If you want to try a boatload of BPAL, including a bunch of Limited Editions and stuff, go for it.

I was making this offer over at [profile] evil_enablers, but I thought I'd offer it on my own journal as well. Sorry to any who may be bored or offended by all of the selling.

As I think a lot of you know, I run a webshop which carries a variety of natural incenses. I need to place a new order with Fred Soll Incense for the shop, and since I know it's a favorite of a lot of the folks here (and since reseller minimum orders with them are pretty high), I thought I'd offer all of you an opportunity to get some at a discount.

These are all natural, thick sticks, and pretty much the most intense natural product I've come across. Each stick lasts over an hour, and you won't want to burn the whole stick at once unless you are in a very open space. These are hand rolled in Taos, New Mexico on a resin base, mostly Pinon Pine. I highly highly recommend these if you like strong, bold, resinous scents.

If you'd like to get in on this group order, let me know which items you'd like by commenting here or by email to vickib@gmail.com. I'll offer you 15% off the usual retail cost. I'll also offer you free shipping (US/Canada addresses), and a 15% discount on anything else from Mother's Hearth that you'd like to have shipped at the same time.

I can take payment by PayPal, any kind.

On to the scents! )

Advantage of flying out of White Plains: Easy in, easy out. Except of course when apparently you've got your toiletries packed incorrectly. (My "logistics invisibility" shield worked fine, but it didn't extend to [personal profile] lediva, sadly.) Disadvantage of flying out of White Plains: small little commuter plane. Claustrophobia city.

Highlights of the con: Getting to see a lot of folks I haven't seen in 2-4 years, and having it feel like I was still close with them. Dressing up in a witchy black cat costume and reading Cat Wisdom cards and Magic Eight Ball for over five hours with barely a break, and actually getting quite a few good readings out of them, despite them having pictures of things like cats contemplating eating frogs and stuff. Lesbian pillowfight room parties, even without any actual pillowfights. Sleeping in, to the point that *[personal profile] lediva* had to wake *me* up.

Lowlights of the con: Running a poorly attended and really moderately crappy World Tree session. Not having there be any Karaoke Revolution to play. Not seeing some people that I'd hoped would be there.

All in all, a good sort of physical and mental reset for me. Many thanks to everyone who made it happen. Many thanks to [profile] bard_bloom and [personal profile] projectmothra for hanging out at home together so I could go.

[personal profile] lediva and [personal profile] glashund went out with me for Way Too Much Sushi last night, and then I went back to the room and pretty much collapsed. So I missed the activities I planned for the evening, but I got a lot of rest. Of course now I'm up, and the only signs of life here are in the 'net room. There's not actually a video gaming room here, so no Karaoke Revolution, which is a little sad for me. But I'll head to the GreyMuzzles breakfast in a bit, and hopefully get to see more of the costuming tonight.

Hugs to all of you.

Off to Midwest Furfest in the am. I'm running World Tree on Saturday, and will be telling fortunes with my trusty Cat Wisdom cards on the Midway at other points in the weekend. Look for a chubby black cat with a bodice and a pointy witch hat.

Otherwise, I'll probably just be chilling out, or singing my little heart out over at Karaoke Revolution or something.

If you are there, do come find me. I'll have my cell phone there if you have the #. If you won't be there, catch you back in LJ land on Sunday night.

Stuff left around here I want you to take:

NEW! BPAL (and other perfume) Mystery Packs
Each pack contains a minimum of 3 full and one partial Limited Edition imps, 5 general catalogue imps, and at least 3 samples from other companies (Arcana, Femaledictions, Lizzie Sweet, etc.), at least the size of BPAL imps and most of them a bunch larger. There's more than that in each, but I'm not sure how much else I'll toss in so I'll leave it at that. Labels may be rolled, or worn -- these are for sniffers, not pretty stuff collectors. $25 includes shipping and delivery confirmiation. I've got two of these, and am offering to my Friends List first before going to the BPAL comms.

Individual BPAL Imps - Fresh from lab, tested once.
$3.00 each, $1.50 shipping for however many, or no additional shipping if bought with Mystery Packs.

OLD!Priority Box of Great Crap! I've got one of these left. $9.00 gets you a Flat Rate Prioirty Box filled with cool stuff I don't want anymore.

EXPECTED HERE SOON! I've still got 3 decants of Possets Perfumes Void Moon available at $4.50 including shipping. It should be here in the next few days -- it's already been shipped according to the vendor.

I can take PayPal for any of this, any kind.

PS If you want to come to my house and make me an offer on pretty much any non-sentient thing that I have around here, I'd probably take it. It's just that place in my cycle, I guess.

Walking down memory lane, reminiscing until I can't really breathe anymore. It's a spiritual exercise, in a way. But then again, I pretty much sell dust for a living.
beetiger: (freakpear)
Hey there!

I'm decluttering my house, and I'd like to offer you guys a bunch of really cool stuff I'm not using. So here's the deal.

You pay me $9.00, which pretty much covers the cost of sending a Priority Flat Rate box(11-7/8" x 3-3/8" x 13-5/8" or 11" X 8.5" X 5.5", depending on the shape of bigger items). I fill it up with things that are making my incense warehouse/workspace, or maybe other parts of my house, hard to navigate. There's a lot of really great stuff in here, but I don't use it much, and it's getting in my way.

No guarantees of what I'll put in there, and my house certainly isn't the Woot Warehouse or anything, but the box will be pretty full, and contain well well more than $9.00 of useable stuff. Items may include:

--Useable but not useful to me electronic gadgets and things. I know I've got a Flash card reader in its original package that I'm not using, an old digital camera (yes, I'll try to dig up the cables and software that come with it if I send it), and a unopened pocket organizer in the original package that was going to be a gift for someone but never got to them, a decade ago.

--Spice blends that I got given in a huge assortment that I never seem to want to use (unopened jars).

--Paperback books (all in readable condition) or CDs (listenable).

--Incense stuff that's useable but for some reason not saleable (open packages, mostly)

--Herbs and essential oils that are still quite useable, but getting old enough that I'm not comfortable selling them anymore.

--Lovely things that I've been given that aren't for me, but I didn't want to regift or anything.

--Anything else I feel inspired to send you.

Come on, you know you want to. Comment here if you want one. I can take PayPal or credit cards. US addresses only please.

Thanks.

ETA: As of now (Monday afternoon) I have one box left. ([profile] ladyperegrine, I already packed yours, just paypal when you get a chance. Any takers?

Boxes have been randomized by the method of having [personal profile] projectmothra take the packed boxes out of the pile one at a time for me to address. I actually don't know who is getting what.

Been hanging out some at Possets Perfume. Cool lady, cool stuff.

I'd really like to try Void Moon, but licorice is so iffy on me I'm wary of getting a whole bottle. Anyone else in the same boat?

I'd like to do a little Void Moon decant circle. Bottles are 7 ml, so I guess there would be 7 slots available at $3.00 + 1.50 shipping = $4.50 each.

I can take PayPal, any kind.

If you're an American of age, tomorrow's Election Day. I'm not going to say that it's your duty as an American to vote, or anything like that. It's your choice. But it is your right, and a right that people in various places over a long period of history have thought was important enough to fight pretty hard for.

Whether you like the choices or not, I'm guessing that you probably feel there's a choice that would be a little better than another. And if you really don't believe that, show up anyway. Write it the name of someone you think could help. Write in your own name. Write up a whole anarchist manifesto and shove it in the write in box if you really think that's what would do the best for the country.

If you can't bring yourself to do that for the big state races, then at least vote in your local races. They're often not so much about politics and parties and much more about just doing some good work in your community. Look up what's going on in those tonight if you don't know. Look up what other ballot initiatives are coming up in your district as well, and decide what you think, if you don't already know. Somebody's trying to make some new bonds or fix some roads or put liquor in your grocery stores or implement school vouchers or something in your community. Find out what.

There's no rule in our country, anywhere, that says that not showing up sends any message at all. Protest non-voting is just going to get pooled in with the giant pile of apathy and people with logistic troubles and people who just don't really think it matters what happens to the country anyway. If just the politicians and their families showed up and voted, the elections would still be valid. And I can't really tell you whether your vote's going to count or whether the box is going to be rigged or anything like that. All I can say is that if you don't get out there, there's no chance at all that anyone's going to hear you.

If you want to do activism to help change the system, I'm thrilled to hear it. There are obviously some really core problems with how elections are run these days. But in the meantime, do what you can within the system as well. Please. It matters. Thanks.

The picture from the photoshoot I was in last weekend is up.

Click "enter site", scroll to the bottom to the image "Beloved Oak". I'm in the middle of the cluster of people on the right side.

This makes me happy.

I got into the car just before 7 am. The little thermometer on the dash read 64 degrees coming out of the garage. Within a minute, it was reading 52. I could deal with that. Over the course of the drive, it dropped down to 46. 42. 39. I turned the defroster on. 38. By time I made the turn on the little side road by the big heritage oak, it was reading 36. I'd always said that my big fuzzy slippers could keep me warm naked in a snowstorm. I hoped I was right.

I'm feeling like my flist is a little cluttered these days, especially with a lot of folks from whom I don't hear a lot these days. Do me a favor -- if you aren't posting much/at all, but are in fact still reading and would like to keep reading the occasional friends-locked stuff, would you please comment or drop me a line? No drama requested or required.

Thanks.

ETA:
This is particularly directed at people who post in their own journals less than once a week. This isn't so much a "are you listening to me?" post as a "are you still using LiveJournal?" post. I'd hate to drop someone that wasn't inactive, but just mostly receptive.

ETA2: And yes, I read you all. No reading filters for me.

Just a heads up to the folks on my friends' list. I've got this kind of a feeling that the third act of Carnivale Diabolique's going to launch on Friday 13th. If this is the case, I'm planning to do another all or nothing decant circle for one set (five slots), and if I've got enough preinterest to make me feel brave, I'll go ahead and order a set the second it comes up on the site and assume that I can get the money from people relatively promptly. I'm a super-fast decanter/shipper, and decanting a single set will go quickly, so if all goes well, you'd be one of the first people to have a set in your hands.

Assuming that the 13-in-1 actually has 13 scents, and assuming that BPAL does a set price like they did the last time, the cost would be $55 for the set including shipping, and you'd get your choice of two empty bottles as well.

I'm not asking for a hard commitment until the update is up, but please let me know if you think you'd be likely to participate.

Thanks!

(ETA People who probably know more than me say this isn't happening until November. Oh well. Tell me if you'd be interested anyways.)
beetiger: (freakpear)
I'm selling more stuff. . Please come get it. People on my friends list get good freebies and stuff.

So, I've decided what I think I want to do for my birthday. In the afternoon, I'd like to go with a small gang of people to the Brooklyn studio of Christopher Brosius, the guy who founded Demeter Fragrances and is now doing art perfuming, and sniff stuff for a long time.

After that, I'd like to go to a box karaoke place (possibly Muse or possibly another one), and sing ourselves silly. Probably with sushi before or after depending on the overall timing. If you haven't been to box karaoke, it's essentially a private room with full control over the songs, no waiting for drunk guys singing "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant", no stranger stage fright.

If I planned this, I wonder, would anyone come? It would probably be on or around December 16.
