But I didn't.

Tell me the strangest thing you've ever liked about me.

Unlike the original meme, though, I'm totally not screening comments. I want you guys to share the weird. I'm willing to let you embarrass me, and I hope you won't be afraid to embarrass yourself if necessary. I can get email in the obvious places if you really want to remind me of something private.

Coming off of a really lovely visit from [personal profile] rowyn, who is smart and funny and cuddly and just all around really nice. She motivated me to get together with [profile] sandramort and her kids, who moved to New York a while ago and with whom I've been planning to meet but never had managed it. (She's [personal profile] rowyn's old roommate.) That was fun and I hope that now we've met we'll see each other again soon. She and I went to dinner with another friend of hers, who also was pretty engaging. :) She also NPC'd in the tabletop Terrible Butterflies game, since the online version is so much further along, and brought a lot to the game.

I generally like having houseguests, and [personal profile] rowyn was a pretty easy one, with no real special requests except Diet Coke, pretty good flexibility around our family's needs, and the ability to win the [personal profile] projectmothra seal of approval. I'm glad to have gotten the chance to spend some time to get to know her better, and I hope we get to see her again at some point.

Anybody else want to come visit?

...are my neighbors setting off fireworks tonight? They've been doing it for over an hour, and I'm really amazed that my son is managing to sleep through it. Is it just 4th of July overstock? Is it the tail end of the kid's birthday party they've been having all day? Did someone, gods forbid, give the kid fireworks as a birthday present?

I don't really feel like going out there to look, since if I do I'm sure that's the moment [personal profile] projectmothra will wake up freaking out about it, and we're just the two of us home tonight.

Grr.

Beekeeping in NYC and the like.

I need to figure out what kind of hive --wasps, probably -- beat my husband up under the porch the other day. But the idea of putting a honeybee hive in the backyard is very appealing. I wonder if I could find a local mentor on this.

[personal profile] lediva and I went back out to Hershey this weekend, to make up for the visit that was cut short due to Omaha's passing.

Overall, it was a really excellent trip. We got some desperately needed connection time, and lots of time to talk, between the 3-4 hour drive each way, and the hours and hours standing on lines to get on to rides that took at most 2 minutes. It was okay, though -- waiting on a line with a grownup whose company you truly enjoy isn't really a big deal at all. And for any of you who aren't aware of this, due to perhaps not actually having had a chance to hang out with my girlfriend, she's very, very funny, even if I made her pout by not laughing at every single joke. I got to hear more about some of her projects, especially Second Shift, than I had gotten to in a while. I probably said some stuff, too, that I hope was interesting. We said "I love you" a lot.

We took a pretty relaxed pace, and still managed to go on all of the coasters we wanted, except for the Great Bear which had a mechanical issue before we got to the front, which may or may not have been related to the ping of something metal we'd heard falling out of/off of the track while we were waiting. We got very wet on some of the rides that get you very wet.

We also did a little pilgrimage to Nail Polish Etc., a shop run by a very active member of the BPAL fandom (Shelldoo) who is now doing monthly East Coast Will Call nights, and is also as far as I know the only place in the country currently where you can just walk in pretty much any day and buy yourself some BPAL. She's got the whole General Catalog on display/available for testing, and she also pulled out a box of prototypes for sniffing, including some of the not yet released Gaiman stuff and the infamous Ded Moroz and Gráinne Ni Mháille. [personal profile] lediva indulged me in this for probably more than an hour, mostly amusing herself with the three very cute cats wandering around the shop.

This was kind of an anniversary trip for me and [livejournal.com profile] lediva, six years of being in each other's lives. It was a good, solid, enjoyable sort of a thing, and I think it marks a good place in what's been a pretty complicated relationship, especially over the last year or so.

Today was...full. I'm more tired than I've been at the end of an evening at home in a while. All the preschoolers came along for the LLL meeting, and although they made a big mess, they played insanely well together, having created a birthday party (with a cake made with real cookies and playdough mixed together) and a fire emergency, and then deciding to wash Rhys' bedroom floor.

I miss my girlfriend. I get to see her in around 24 hours or so, after having not seen her for 6 weeks, so it's kind of a silly time to be missing her intensely, but it seems to be where I am.

I have several orders for my businesses due to go out, as well as a reship of an order I screwed up and a bunch of [profile] bard_bloom's book to go out.

I do not seem to be able to convince myself to go to bed.

My most talented husband's novel, A Marriage of Insects, has finally been published by Padwolf Press. I've got boxes of them in my basement. Make me ship one out to you, with or without a copy of the original World Tree game to keep it company, by clicking here.

p.s. We also like trades. If you have written/published something interesting and want to swap copies, let us know.

Fygmalion from Possets. Thought I would love it, but it just arrived and it's really not for me. One drop tested through reducer cap, never touched skin directly. Ten bucks plus two bucks shipping gets it out to you tomorrow morning. Let me know if you are interested.

Exhausted, but everything went well. My little world traveler was really a pleasure to be with for most of the trip, exicted and interested and willingto walk enough that I think he may have worn out the little lights in his sneakers.

Much more later, after sleep and catching up with things left undone here. If you've had anything important or time-sensitive happen that you think I ought to know about, drop me a line and let me know.

We're off to the land of gelato, where the letter 'Z' is popular.

Rumor has it that Internet cafes are pretty ubiquitous in Florence, so although I probably won't be reading LJ, I should probably be getting email once or twice, so if you've got something to say to me or something you want me to see that you don't think should wait until I get back, feel free to email.

See you in July! I miss you all already.

Fine. Great. All my friends in NYC and Boston get to spend the day fighting off zombies, and here I am living my usual tedious bullshit. I live less than 20 miles from both a town that's pretty much a big giant cemetery, and a big ill-designed nuclear reactor, and what do we get? Nothing. Either that, or undead that stay in their SUVs and Hummers. Not sure how I'd tell that.

I hate the fucking suburbs.

I walked into the gallery yesterday, after having emailed earlier in the week to check in on the new scents, and cb immdiately recognized me, got up, and said hello. Then he gave me a personal tour of the new scents. It's so much fun talking to him about them. He's obviously really proud of his work (who could blame him), and has a ton to say about each scent and the process of developing it.

I'll share in the order he shared with me. He offered each scent to me on a filter strip, to sniff and put on my skin if I liked.

I'm collecting interest for decants of the new CB I Hate Perfume scents so I can go over there on Saturday, over at this post. I'm guessing some of you might be interested but don't read that comm. Not collecting money yet since I don't know the prices, but trying to figure out if there's enough interest to divvy up 15 ml bottles of all of them.

Wild Hunt, my friends. That's all I can say.

ps also if anyone local wants to meet me in Brooklyn, let me know.

About 2 years ago, I got a screenprinting set from someone on freecycle, because I'd wanted to try screen printing for a while now. I'd put it up on a shelf, then forgot about it, then I moved it to a closet and mostly-forgot about it, and recently it's ended up out of that closet and on my floor, where after tripping on it a few times, I've gotten some ideas of things I wanted to try printing. Also, now Rhys has seen it, and he has been bugging me to do it for a bit.

So this morning, I opened the box, which I was sure I'd done before, but I guess not. And it's got instructions, and inks, and all that, in good condition, but it's got no screens.

No. Screens.

And I've been holding on to this for two years now, kind of assuming in the back of my mind that if I ever got the hankering to do screenprinting that I could. But I can't. I've been holding on to something, counting on it, when actually when I bother to take 20 seconds to look, it's missing one of the core components I'd need for it to be any use at all.

I wonder how many other things in my life are like that.

[livejournal.com profile] projectmothra had been bugging me to go visit [personal profile] lediva for a while now, and she was willing to make her space preschooler-friendly enough to make it work, so he and I drove down for the weekend. We did something we'd never decided to do in all my years visting her (and many other people) in the city -- a Duck Tour, which drives around in a repurposed WWII amphibious transport vehicle, driving around town for a while and then driving into the river. We did something we frequently do when we get together -- box karoake, in which I got to remedy the case of ABBAus interruptus I had acquired at Hershey last weekend. The charming [profile] forgotten_years joined us, singing stuff I'd never heard of and engaging my son in quite a bit of it. [personal profile] lediva and I seem to have acquired a new song.

We went to have bubble tea twice, and [personal profile] projectmothra noted every bird, tree, piece of litter, blemish on the sidewalk, and street sign along the third of a mile walk from [personal profile] lediva's apartment to there. I've forgotten how to be that good a noticer, I think.

Sunday we got to have lunch with [personal profile] heavenscalyx and [personal profile] akycha, which was pleasant company in itself, and also accompanied a stellar rice pudding, with a brulee topping and boozy cherries. Rain and low sleep kind of screwed around with everyone's moods for the latter part of the afternoon, but I'm pretty sure we didn't overstay our welcome.

It's good to just hang out with people you love.

On one of the big wooden coasters at Hersheypark, this past weekend. Call me old-fashioned, but I could skip the big metal things that throw you upsidedown and backwards; give me a big old wooden incline going clickety clack whoosh in the night, and for a few seconds it's the most joyful moment in the world.
