A little bit of play

After having convinced myself that [profile] bard_bloom was as able to take care of the baby with the stomach virus as I was, and that I really needed to do something distinctly non-baby oriented and non-suburban, I decided to keep my Saturday night plans.

I had been alerted to a Clown Fetish night at a club in Manhattan by the infamous [profile] duckydoo, and having been amused by [personal profile] lediva's extremely positive reaction to the idea, decided to go this weekend.

The obvious outfit to wear had ended up at Goodwill with a bunch of baby handmedowns that we couldn't use -- I'd thrown it into the box in a pique of postpartum depression that I only vaguely remember. So I had to scrounge in my closets for something that I thought worked. It really alerted me to the fact that I'm back about 4 sizes bigger than I was just before I got pregnant. I'm not actually feeling bad about myself or uncomfortable in my body about this. However, it does mean I have very little clothing that fits, and especially very little play/fetish clothing that fits, and I felt pretty unhappy about it. It wasn't that things didn't fit in the "Now I have to put a two inch gap in this corset that used to lace tight" kind of way; they didn't fit in the "Even if I let the laces out all of the way, I still can't come close to putting this all the way around my body" kind of way. But I managed to cobble together something I was satisfied with, including the cool green wig which [personal profile] lediva brought for me.

She, of course, wore the LeDiva costume, with Goth clown makeup. She's a one-schtick kitty, but she does it well.

In the club, we felt both way dorkier and way cooler than everyone else there at the same time. We walked in right past the long line of beautiful people, got in for free, and got handed free drinks by the event organizer. Julia got her picture taken a few times by random people. I got flirted with a bit by a cute Asian grad student boy, which is always good for the mood. We definitely looked good, and I felt good about it. But we were the only ones actually in costume besides the bartenders and the go-go dancers, and I think people thought we were on-staff. Ducky's cake-sitting show was impressive but only about 5 minutes long. She did thank us for coming and let the flirty boy take a picture of her with us after she performed, though.
I may be getting too old for clubbing; I think I'd have preferred a quieter event with people I know. We had fun, though, and Rhys was okay at home, so it was all good.

I'm here now, with the baby with the stomach bug having transformed smoothly into a baby probably now with an earache, who won't nurse but seems cheerful after drinking several ounces of milk out of a spoon. We're waiting for our doctor appointment instead of going to playgroup. But at least I got out of mommy brain for a few hours. Now, if I could only get into writer brain...

Very sexy!

You were the *only* ones who dressed up? That's so sad!!

More attention for us! :)

Between the two of us, we got three free drinks, two people flirting and one offer of drugs.

You looked soooo cute! I was happy you were there! But that club was the worst, huh? I had never been there. I much prefer the small downtown clubs where people are more normal (i.e. weird). But thanks for coming out. xoxo - Ducky

Hey!

Y'all is on the teler-vision!

at least in New York, I wouldn't think you'de feel that out of place being the only ones in costume... when that happens here in Milwaukee, on halloween yet... makes you feel REAL silly.

I love those boots!

Now, if I could only get into writer brain...

Any local classes you could take? Scheduling time to write and having a bunch of people having to write then, too, definately helps.

Cool! I'm glad you and LeDiva got out for a bit of dressup fun. Thanks for sharing the pic.

Okay, the brightly-colored baby toys add just the right note of whimsey. Cute, and not as scary as what popped into my mind when [livejournal.com profile] lediva first told me about this.

Heh. I didn't even notice the toys in the picture. That's just what my living room looks like these days!

I'm glad that you had a chance to get out!

the baby toys actually lend it a whole other sinister mystique...

You look really cute! (:

Clown fetish... Clown fetish... try as I may, I just cannot wrap my brain around that concept.

You're scaring and pretty at the same time. You broke my brain.
