Evolution

Babies have a really strong reflex to grab on to things with their powerful little hands. If I were a-swingin' through the trees with Rhys instead of putting him in the sling, he'd be grabbing my fur so as not to fall off.

They don't have any associated innate ability to let go, though. This means that when I helped the baby get his tiny fingers around a rattle the right way, he held it tight, shaking, at first in a surprised way, then a pleased one, and finally a disturbed one as he couldn't figure out how to let go of it.

Primates are funny.

I actually let my ears close up after the first baby, forgetting to ever put them back in.

So now that I am pretty sure I am done with this baby thing, I got new holes 7 years after the old ones closed up.

(Noses are targets too. Always file or clip those claws! And the hair, the hair -- no wonder so many mothers do the 30something hair chop!)

I'm not even a mom and I know about that amazing ShurGrip babygrab for hair. How do they manage to get JUST enough that it doesn't pull out but not enough that it doesn't hurt like (*&^*&%*&*(&(*&*&^&$$#$^ ? Amazing.
Glasses. If we can afford it when/if Paka and I are lucky enough to spawn, I'm going for contacts.

Oh, man, the "amazing ShurGrip" for hair gave me flashbacks. Not to any babies, but to my parents' biggest dog, who had a fascination for long hair when he was a puppy. You just haven't lived until an 80-pound dog has swung from your ponytail...

Ook Ook! Hey, that grabbing reflex has stood me well in many a date or passionate romp. *wink*
