I declined to go a-barbecuing yesterday afternoon, but instead flipped between coughing and mewing pathetically, and working on pieces for my new costume for Anthrocon, which looks like it’s going to amuse me immensely whether or not anyone else cares. I’m justifying the expense and effort by convincing myself I’ll wear it for Halloween, unless I’m actually in labor at the time.

In the evening we joined a few friends for Indian food and an excursion to Piermont, a little town notable for an extremely fine restaurant at which I once has one of the most memorable meals of my life, a fun folk-coffeehouse which attracts moderately big performers in that scene, and a town park with a magnificent view along the Hudson River, right where the Tappan Zee Bridge crosses. You can see the fireworks displays for quite a few of the towns along the river there (Tarrytown, Irvington, Nyack, Dobbs Ferry, Ossining, probably some others), all at once, as well as a little display by the town itself and random stuff that people are shooting off boats. Truly exceptional.

It’s mostly just visual, as no one is playing patriotic music nearby, and the fireworks are too far away to hear. That’s not to say it was quiet. I didn’t mind the young people yelling boom each time something went off at first --it was cute. But when they got bored after ten minutes and would have quieted down, their parents encouraged them by yelling for the various fire departments at the top of their lungs, calling out opinions of who was in the lead, and such. When people (including our group) responded by moving away, the mother started them on chants like "Why do I get to be so loud? Because I’m Jeremy!"

Remind me not to actually train my kid to be a public nuisance.

see, i (or mike, too) would have said something to them along the lines of "excuse me, but do you realize you and your enchanting children are ruining the evening for dozens of people around you?" and when they responded with "so what - you should be careful who you mouth off to! you might get something you don't expect!" would have just socked one of them in the mouth.

you have my sympathies. why does it seem like obnoxious public behavior is spreading?

i just don't understand how some people can be this way.

My kids ever acted that way
in public, I'd parbroil them.

Those poor kids. They never asked
to have monkey scrotes for parents.

Hi there! If you are coming to Anthrocon, look for the pregnant woman in spandex hanging out in the gaming area. If not, look for pictures here soon after that.

And welcome to my little world!

(Chuckle) Don't think there's much chance of the two of you having a kid who's a 'public pest'...you both know a LOT better than that.

So, are you doing a mommie-to-be version of beetiger for AC or something new? pout. I won't be there to see for myself. You can look for Seth tho, with a new equine costume (to which I'm contributing some work on the clothing bits)--give him a hug for me (I won't get to see him til MFM). Hugs to you too!

Something new. Bumblebee as a character has a lot of backstory, and being physically infertile is part of it. Being a dryad and constantly making bees kind of focuses your fertility energy elsewhere. :) So she'd never be pregnant, and I'm wanting to show off the tummy...

I'm sorry I'll miss you at Anthrocon, as Mothra will be too tiny to travel by plane to MFF this year. If you ever find yourself coming East for other reasons, be sure to let me know. I miss you! But I'll post pictures of the character-without-a-name yet after the con...
