Splitting the difference

If I could average the amount of sleeping she does when given the chance with the amount of sleep my restless mind seems to allow me, it would serve both of our lives much better.

If I could average her height with mine, we'd probably both be happier.

And if I could average the miles between here and there, take some bits of Connecticut and stir them around to compress the space between, average the highway signs and build a mystical route labeled 165, it wouldn't take a whole weekend of time and energy just to put my arms around her for a little while.

Then again, anyone who knows us at all would certainly laugh at the idea of describing either of us as average.

Hmm.

And if you could mention her name just once, it wouldn't confuse the hell out of those of us who don't know what on the Tree you're chatting about. ;)

Well, maybe I already know. But I can't help it.

Julia.

I have actually mentioned her by name here, before. For some reason this piece felt right to write just as it is above, though.

That's one of the major goals I have as a writer, of course: to make people feel something. That, and to make them think. If I can do that, I'm getting somewhere.
