(If I were more inspired, there would be some amusing test-drive stories here.)

Our local Toyota dealership actually has a previously owned (2001) Prius on the lot, at a price I think I can manage. It's pseudo high-tech and boxy in a happy-technology kind of way for which the aesthetic kind of appeals. They're also willing to pretend my dead car is almost worth something. I'm going to sleep on this overnight, but I think I'll probably be closing this chapter this way.

W00t, go you! This sounds like a really good investment, considering that the price of oil is likely to shoot up even further in the near future. Plus, hybrid and alternative energy cars are just much sexier. :)
