[profile] bard_bloom and I have officially paid off our mortgage.

So yeah, we own this place, and the cash flow opens up a *lot*.

There are a lot of things that need fixing and repairing here still, and if we were smart we'd start putting some of the money that used to go toward monthly payments toward that. But I think first I will buy summer programs for [personal profile] projectmothra. And hats, and sushi. But not sushi hats.

Great $WINTERHOLIDAY present!

Woohoo! Congratulations! I've got seven or eight years left on mine, alas. Though there's still real estate taxes and insurance even when the mortgage is gone. I'm half-afraid I'll forget to pay those once the bank's not escrowing for them. c.c

We've been paying those directly all through, so I'm used to paying them.

Ooh, that's pretty cool. So many mortages are federally-guaranteed or go through one of the FMs or another or are sold on the secondary market, all of which require escrow, that it's rare to find a lender who will let you pay it yourself. Nifty!
