Not a new meme, but a good offer to make every once in a while.

From everywhere:

"The problem with Livejournal is that we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. Hence, I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don’t know about you."

So… ask. Something you think you should know, but don’t.

Did you like school when you were a kid? What was your early educational experience like?

I was a teacher's pet as a kid, and I remember enjoying that place overall. Though some of my ongoing issues with self-esteem come from there; I knew I was faking stuff a lot, and early, and I was getting away with it. I went to private school starting in the sixth grade (Rutgers Prep, kind of over your direction), though I to this day am not sure why my parents switched me over. I think they were afraid of the public junior high.

I made friends with the freaks and outlaws insofar as they existed, but still somehow maintained a reputation as "the good kid". I was bright and motivated, even as I was on the social fringes. I came into kind of a shock in college because I hadn't really learned how to fail and not have someone be covering for me. But I'm...um...pretty good at failing now. :P

Where did you me LeDiva and Bard?

Bard and I met in the office where he was working as a grad student at MIT, in 1988. I was visiting a friend from college who had dated him for a while, and who wanted to introduce me to him, saying that he had character flaws that I would probably think were features. We met before she got to actually introduce us, and on hearing I'd come out as bi, she actually tried to unintroduce us, but failed. I sorted my underwear from the trip I'd just come back from in his office, and noticed he'd been doing math on a white board using smiley faces and frowny faces as operators. Somehow, we were each charmed by the other's behavior. :)

LeDiva I met in the Truth or Dare pools on FurryMUCK in 2001, where we mutually snarked at people too oblivious to know better and made meta-jokes about feminist authors. We met in person at Anthrocon that year, and had a kind of intense immediate connection at that point. A new relationship was entirely not something I was looking for at that time in my life, but it was one of the best decisions I ever made to let myself be open to it.

What chain of events led to your coming out as bi?

As a going-through-puberty teen, I was attracted to all kinds of stuff: men, women, trees, brightly painted buildings...I figured out pretty fast that "men" was the right thing, so I went with that, but the rest of it still stayed under the surface. After a kind of emotionally complicated breakup with a boyfriend and a sudden series of girl-crushes, I decided that I was going to hang out in the lesbian community at college and starting dating women there.

A while after that, I met Bard (see story above), and I kind of liked him a whole lot, so I thought I'd go with the 'bi' label. I tend to use 'pansexual' rather than 'bi' now, but that's a different story.

How'd you wind up working with foods?

Randomly. I mean, I'd always liked cooking, and food. But my first job in the food industry came through a technical temporary agency, after I'd taken a terminal Master's for my graduate work and moved to Ithaca. I instantly loved it. I seemed to be really good at it. It used my science background in a way that satisfied me. So I kept doing it for quite a while.

Who are some of your favorite music artists?
How did you and Bard come up with the concept of the World Tree?
