I know. You just made me think for a second about keeping them inside the house, and...gah. :) No house-training, just watching out for the waves of "yellow rain". :P
You're BEEKEEPING? What's the deal? Do you keep them indoors in the winter or since they go dormant, can they stay outside?
Congrats! That's awesome.
And might I add, ALOT of names to come up with. How on Earth will you recognize each individual? lol Or will you name just the hive mind and be done with it?
The hive stays outside all winter. I may need to wrap it a bit to insulate it, but mostly the bees huddle up in a little ball in the middle of it and shiver till spring comes.
Generally, people name the hive, and maybe the queen. The workers get born and die off all season, so it would be kind of sad to name the individuals even if you could ID them!
Watch out for swarming. spinningwheels has a story about when his wife had to chase the swarm down the street when it picked up and left the hive. She managed to grab a cardboard box to scoop them into when they finally settled down. I'm not sure if there was a second queen or not. Anyway, congrats and I hope they stay happy and prosperous and don't expand their hive too much for you to handle! And that you share some of their golden bounty with the rest of us :)
