Dark half of the year
Oct. 31st, 2002 07:57 amI'm blinking myself awake this Samhain morning, trying to get a few things done before heading into the city for the Samhain event that my Temple/meta-coven is holding. The idea behind this was to begin offering the NYC community a "serious" Halloween alternative event, compared to the parade and the more partyish Witches' Balls that are usually available. (They've gotten rather goth-club-partyish, indeed. I made the mistake of trying to drag the blackcat out to one, and was not impressed.)
Our Silent Supper seems to have come together well enough, and although it won't make money it shouldn't put the organization entirely in debt. If I can make as much of a personal peace with the living members of the Temple as I can with my Blessed Dead, I'll be in good shape. I spent last night baking seven dozen cookies and painting them with pentagrams in black and orange icing. Food offerings to the community. It's been a long time since I did that style of baking. I enjoy it, even if the food dye is a mess in my kitchen upstairs.
This is a high-witchy dress event -- black velvet and silver and sparkles, not costumes. I'm sitting here in my robe, trying to decide how much costume dress-up I feel like just to stay in the house, maybe go to the bank, not likely see anyone I know. This saddens me, really, since I'm a big Halloween (or anytime!) dress-up person. Falling into the temptation to dress Bumblebee up high-witchy for the event will not improve the social/political issues I have with the organization right now. I'll probably go with a black bodysuit, ears, tail or Ren garb with elf ears, if I go out.
In vaguely-related news, I just found out that my ministerial credentials have in fact come through. If anysome would like to get legally married in NY, and thinks they'd appreciate my unique personal style as part of their ceremony, please let me know. Of course, if you are getting not-legally married anywhere, and think you'd appreciate my unique personal style as part of your ceremony, also let me know.
