I had a very nice weekend, despite the rain, out in Boston with [personal profile] lediva, which I'm really not in the mood to talk about in a lot of detail, but it included accompanying her to an audition to a reality show, which she'll probably tell you all about eventually. And hey, bonus hour. That's good.

I am having a very frustrating time with an old Nokia tablet that [personal profile] lediva gave me. It doesn't seem to work, Nokia customer service was not helpful, and moreover, the software I wanted to try to download to maybe help with it doesn't appear on the webpage when I look, so I felt kind of silly with the CS rep while not actually getting anything I needed. Blergh. The fact that my son is now an "expert" in everything and insists on giving me random and unsolicited advice about it doesn't help either.

May I pick your muscial brains? I'm putting together a collection of songs for someone that are about creepy, stalkerish, or other grossly inappropriate or one-sided "relationships", anything from things like "Don't Stand So Close to Me" to "#1 Crush". I'd love more ideas of songs on that theme, as my own sources to draw from are not that broad, and my memory's not that good.

Blitzkid - The Trunk or My Bloody Valentine, although they might be somewhat inappropriate depending on how sensitive your friend is :)

The ?? after The Police was questioning whether it's what you're looking for...not if The Police were the artists.

I think we're seeing a theme with The Police. :P

Clay Aiken's "Invisible" is one of the creepiest love songs I've heard of that nature.

There's an Alanis Morrisette song that was a hidden track on one of her albums which would be perfect. It's a about a girl who breaks into this guy's house to look at his stuff and use his shower and such. Let me see if I can figure out the song. (A friend put it on a "stupid boy" mix tape she made me in college, but there's no title on it.)

Oh yeah. What about "Right Here Waiting For You?" Or maybe it only feels stalkerish b/c of my jr prom in hs. It was the last song they played and everyone who wasn't there with he person they wanted to be stood on the sidelines watching them dance and listening to that song.

I assume the Nokia tablet is a 770, right? I’ve got one of those, and I love it (although I’d love it even more if it had a keyboard). What’s its current status — what are you trying to do with it, and what problems are you having?

Date: 2007-11-05 06:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] beetiger.livejournal.com
It came to me out of charge. When I try to charge it and then turn it on, it won't. It either shows the Nokia logo on white for a second, or flashes it repeatedly about one second on, one off, for a while, when it's plugged into the charger, and won't turn on at all otherwise. When I attach it to my laptop with a USB cable, it does nothing if it's not plugged into the charger, and acts as if I've plugged a peripheral into the machine for one second and then unplugged it again if it is also attached to the charger.

How long have you had it on the charger? The problem is that to some extent the charging is under software control, so if the battery is really absolutely 100% flat, it won’t charge properly. However, it does still accumulate a little bit of a charge in that state, so the thing to do is to leave it plugged in for a good long time (like 24 hours or so, I think). Then you should be able to unplug it and plug it back in and it will be able to charge normally. You might need to turn it on with the power button, or it might come on (to a sufficient level to charge normally) when you plug the adapter in again; I’m not sure.

If that doesn’t work, then the battery itself might be bad. (New ones are about $60, which is to say about half the price Nokia 770s are going for at this point. However, there are also third-party replacement batteries available for a lot less. I wouldn’t expect them to be as good as a new Nokia battery, though. This Froogle search will find both kinds.) I bet it will be OK if you just leave it plugged in for a good long time, though.

I left it overnight, but I guess I'll go plug it in some more. Could you do me a favor and take a look at the model code for your charger? [personal profile] lediva thinks there's some chance she gave me the wrong one.

The charger that came with it says "Nokia AC-4U" on the bottom. (I’ve used third-party chargers successfully, too.)
