Public Service Announcement: Do Not Call Registry

If you registered your phone number with the National Do Not Call Registry when the program started in 2002, you need to re-register. Phone numbers automatically drop off the list after five years, in theory to allow people who change their numbers and get recycled numbers to have the option of enjoying unsolicited sales offers by phone :P.

The good news is that it's easy to re-register.Here, have a link.

Is it just me, or are we getting more door-to-door salesman now?

I get political door-to-door, and kids selling magazines, and the occasional seller of kids' books, strangely enough. I used to get the religious folk, but not lately. Most of my drive-by sales pitches are flyers stuck in the mailbox, though.

... give up the landline. =n.n=

I suggest this in a ha-ha-only-serious fashion as a note. I know I'm probably biased, having drunk magenta Kool-Aid, but not having a home phone eliminated a lot of problems all at once, and working for a mobile phone company made owning a mobile phone pretty cheap.

Can't they call mobile phones just as easily?

Actually, no, because you pay for incoming calls as well as outgoing. They can call landlines because you pay a flat fee to have the phone, but incoming calls are free. Since it costs the customer money to be called on a cell phone, it's against the FCC regulations to call cellphones for marketing purposes.

At least, that's my understanding of the laws and I can say I've never gotten a cold call before on my mobile. I've gotten calls from companies when I forgot that I asked to be notified for things, but those are opt-in relationships into which I opted by mistake.

This is very helpful, thanks!

Also, did I mention what a pleasure it was to see you in the city this past weekend?

No problem!

And I had a really great time too! I especially appreciate you indulging me in the chocolate when you couldn't even have any. Let's do something again soon.

Any interest in the White Plains herp show this Sunday? (I am on the fence myself, since the weather is supposed to be craptastical, but I would def. be more enthusiastic if I knew you guys were going to be there...)

Hmm. Maybe. I have some morning commitments, but I could free up later in the day, and [personal profile] projectmothra would probably enjoy it. Snakes in the rain! I'll double check I'm not forgetting something else on the schedule and drop you a line.
