The "Grown Up" Survey
(Meant to be completed by those out of high school)

Tired of all of those surveys made up by high school kids?
'Have you ever kissed someone?'
'Missed someone?'
'Told someone you loved them?'
'Drank alcohol?'
Here are 50 questions for the people who are a little more "mature"...

1. What bill do you hate paying the most?
My sales taxes for my business. It's a different tax rate for every county in New York, and it's fussy, and I usually screw up the dates and thus end up paying a $50 late fee on $23 of taxes.

2. Where was the last place you had a romantic dinner?
*thinkthink* The ancient Swiss restaurant in Ossining with the aggressive reservationist. It wasn't a *very* romantic dinner, and it wasn't really that good, but it was fondue and it was just me and [profile] bard_bloom, so that was good.

3. Last time you puked from drinking?
Never, that I can recall. I don't think my body responds that way. As far as getting the kind of overdrunk that might cause some people to puke? The cast party for Smoke and Mirrors, which [personal profile] lediva was in, recently.

4. When is the last time you got drunk and danced on a bar?
I haven't, I don't think. The last time I even danced *in* a bar has to be probably a few years ago.

5. Name of your first grade teacher?
Mrs. Papa, I think it was. She didn't believe in nicknames, so I ended up getting a little bracelet with "Victoria" written on it so I could know how to spell my name, as I kept forgetting it wasn't quite the same as Vicki and would put a 'k' in it.

6. What do you really want to be doing right now?
Right now? I should probably be sleeping. I'd kind of like to be having kinky sex with someone who really wanted to be there with me. I'd be pretty satisfied with getting some more laundry done.

7. What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A doctor, or a superhero, or a news broadcaster, or a paleontologist, at various points that I can recall.

8. How many colleges did you attend?
One for undergrad, one for grad school, and a bunch of classes at a school where I worked. So I guess three.

9. Why did you choose the shirt that you have on right now?
It was in the closet, clean, was oversized so the buttons didn't pull on my tits, and had long sleeves but wasn't a turtleneck.

10. GAS PRICES?
My Prius has been in the shop for the last week, which is making me very unhappy. I'm driving a rented Toyota Yaris, which gets pretty good mileage on account of being kind of a glorified go-cart built with a body like the Corolla was in the eighties, but with modern efficiency.

11. If you could move anywhere and take someone with you?
Boston, no question, with my husband and son. I'd go tomorrow if it were plausible.

12. First thought when the alarm went off this morning?
The regular alarm didn't go off for some reason. The thing that woke me up was the cat coming into the bedroom to hack up a giant furball. So I think my first thought was "Yuk."

13. Last thought before going to sleep last night?
Why can't I sleep, why can't I , why can't I....

14. Favorite style of underwear?
Comfortable briefs, in bright colors, if I have to wear it.

15. Favorite style of underwear for the opposite sex?
Tight briefs, in exotic designs.

16. What errand/chore do you despise?
Trying to clean things up when none of the relevant stuff has homes.

17. If you didn't have to work, would you volunteer?
I volunteer some now, but I don't know that I'd volunteer full time, unless it was something in particular that needed full time, like a Peace Corps/Americorps thing, or something higher end that used real skills that I have. In some ways, it could be said that i don't work now, and I don't seem to volunteer as much as I could.

18. Get up early or sleep in?
My natural inclination would probably be to sleep in. I'm not a morning person, but my current schedule and modest insomnia mean I wake up pretty early now even in the rare case that I don't need to.

19. What is your favorite cartoon character?
I've got a perhaps unnatural fondness for Ming-Ming Duckling these days.

20. Favorite NON sexual thing to do at night with a girl/guy?
Sing, laugh, and cuddle.

21. Have you found real love yet?
Several times over. Lost some of it, too.

22. When did you first start feeling old?
When my knee started to cause me trouble on stairs. When I realized there was no way I would ever again be mistaken for someone in my twenties. When my baby sister went to college. When I realized that people I was considering to look/act like "someone's parents" were actually my peers.

23. Favorite 80's movie?
Nothing strongly comes to mind right now. I'm sure I saw movies in the eighties. I'm very tired.

24. Your favorite lunch meat?
Salami.

25. What do you get every time you go into Sam's Club?
There's not a Sam's Club very near here. I tend to avoid the local Wal-Mart.

26. Beach or lake?
Lake. Quieter and better for fishing, boating, and thinking. Much lower key.

27. Do you think marriage is an outdated ritual?
I think that rituals for lifelong pairbonding are one of the core human experiences for connecting lives in a conscious way. I don't like the way that this ritual is tied into our legal system, though.

28. How many people do you stalk on livejournal?
I'm not sure what you mean by that. There are a few people whom I care a lot what they're up to, and for whom getting that information via what they write in livejournal is a good method. I go to my girlfriend's info page and see when the last time was that she used her Xbox probably more often than I should.

29. Favorite guilty pleasure?
Nutella straight out of the jar with a spoon.

30. Favorite movie you wouldn't want anyone to find out about?
Some of the cheesy costume porn in the back of my closet.

31. What's your drink?
A well-made Cosmo, with real lime and cranberry juices and none of that punch crap, or a nice Riesling.

32. Cowboys or Indians?
I like my cow-boys with udders and horns, and my Indians in saris and long braids. Given that, I'll take the girls in silks.

33. Cops or Robbers?
Robbers. Anarchist, gypsy, Robin Hood type robbers. The whole men in uniform thing doesn't do it for me.

34. Who from high school would you like to run into?
Carol, because I miss her and we're out of touch, but I think about her a lot. Paul, because at heart I really *am* a stalker and I haven't been able to trace him down in some number of years.

35. What radio station is your car radio tuned to right now?
NPR.

36. Norm or Cliff?
That's from Cheers, right? Only ever watched about 5 episodes.

37. The Cosby Show or the Simpsons?
Neither, really. Though I guess I kinda could have a bit of a thing for Lisa Simpson. It's the sax.

38. Worst relationship mistake that you wish you could take back?
I'd have let David go much sooner. It didn't serve either of us well for me to obsess as long as I did. I definitely shouldn't have been having random physical encounters with him years later. The funny thing is, the thing which finally, utterly got me over him that was the fact that when I got a card congratulating me on Rhys' birth, it was signed by his girlfriend, and his distinctive handwriting wasn't on it at all, he hadn't even signed his own name.

39. Do you like the person who sits directly across from you at work?
I think at this point that's my toddler. So yes.

40. If you could get away with it, who would you kill?
I would prefer not to personally be in the situation to kill someone, getting away with it or no.

41. What famous person(s) would you like to party with?
Robin Williams. That'd just be fun.

42. What famous person would you like to sleep with?
Paul Simon. I'm still crazy for him after all these years. Or maybe Lucy Lawless if she'd wear the Xena getup to bed.

43. Have you ever had to use a fire extinguisher for its intended purpose?
I don't recall so.

44. Last book you read for real?
Ruth Barrett, Women's Rites, Women's Mysteries.

45. Do you have a teddy bear?
I have a lot of stuffed animals, although they are mostly in storage. I have a bear my college roommate gave me, and I claim a partial share in the Vermont Teddy Bear that Rhys has.

46. Strangest place you have ever brushed your teeth?
In a field in front of a tent at a LARP in middle of nowhere PA.

47. Somewhere in California you've never been and would like to go?
The Madonna Inn.

48. Do you go to church?
I do. We technically call it a fellowship, but hey.

49. At this point in your life would you rather start a new career or a new relationship?
That's actually a really tough question right now. I need more inspiration from the outside right now, and it could probably easily come from either satisfying work or new relationship energy. The social energy would probably be more likely to kick me back into gear generally, but the career would probably be more helpful in the long term. Unfortunately, I don't see either of these in my near future, though.

50. Just how OLD are you?
39.

...I stayed at the Madonna Inn with my mother and grandmother. I had forgotten. I am gobsmacked.

It was... pink. The gas pumps were pink. Everything was... I think I need to go and lie down now.

My college boyfriend went there as part of a tour he did with the Yale Russian Chorus. He sent me a postcard of every single room there, each with at least a few words on it, a letter than continued for dozens and dozens of cards. It may very well have been the most sweet, thoughtful thing he did that whole relationship. Since then, I've always wanted to go, and stay in one of the rock rooms, and then dress in drag and go use the rock fountain urinal in the men's room at an odd hour when no one else would be looking.
