Fourth Night

I ran the Passover Seder at the UU Fellowship tonight. I used to do it every year for about 7 years or so, but had not the last two years due to some politics and rude people who were bored with what I do there. (It's a ritual tradition, it's *supposed* to be similar year to year, pfeh.) This year, said people have left, so I got asked kind of last minute to do it again. I agreed to do the ritual leading (Just call me Bubbeh Vicki) and ritual food prep, and to make soup, but I was not the person in charge of logistics and setup. This meant that there were fewer people and less food than usual, and the tableware was not as coordinated as it usually is, and there were definitely both milk and meat dishes there, but it was way easier on me, and I actually had a pretty good time. [personal profile] projectmothra was very excited to help, and very good throughout the evening, and I was tickled to hear him read his part of the Four Questions (and proud, I guess -- he did a good job reading and people were impressed).

I've got leftover soup and a good portion of Passover Chocolate Mousse cake in the refrigerator, and finally, halfway through the holiday, I feel like there's a point. I don't think I'm going to go another year skipping doing ritual on the first two nights, even if no one invites me and I feel silly doing it pretty much for myself, since neither Rhys or Bard care much. I'll have to either wrangle myself an invite somewhere or just invite some other folks myself. The first half of this week has just been depressing, but now I feel a lot more like it's a holiday.

On the odd side, on the way down to the event, [personal profile] projectmothra told me that before he was a baby, when he didn't have any blood or water inside him, he was a violin. He was pretty adamant about it.

*oooh* Rent the movie The Red Violin, if you haven't seen it already. It's not a kids' movie, so watch it with Rhys in bed, but it will be interesting in light of his comment.

I wish you could have come to our Seder - that would've been fun.

The Red Violin

Ooh, seconded. It's a great film.

a violin?

I've heard of musicians insisting that instruments have souls, but this is the first time I've ever heard of anyone claiming to be incarnated from one. Did you ask him what happened to the violin? :)

Wow. That's cute, especially because the GF wants kids, and I have no idea how I feel about Judaism - let alone sticking kids with the stigma/responsibility of it.

Wonder how he came up with the violin idea? That's pretty cool.

Eli and I came back from our Passover Seder last night, stuffed with great Jewish food. It's part of our own annual rituals.

Keep it up. It's good for you and Rhys.
