One of the baby snakes has escaped. I can't figure out how, as the cage looked pretty securely fastened to me, even when I got there. But there's no snake in it. Frantic searching all over the place has turned up nothing, so far. It's pretty likely that it's taken up residence in my heating system or somewhere else impossible, and unlikely that I'll be able to find it before the cat does. THere's the back part of a shed on the guest bed, and the missing snake still needed to shed in the back a bit, so I'm pretty convinced that at some point, it was on the bed. But that could have been hours, even days ago. I don't recall checking on it for sure since Monday night.

this kinda stinks, but it's not surprising. they're so tiny and yet strangely determined, you almost have to plan on stuff like this.

the only thing i could suggest is to leave out a heating pad set on low overnight and let the room grow cold (open the window and turn off radiant heat or close vent, if you're heating - i know we're not but 50 degrees is nippy for a snake). if it's still in the vicinity it might turn up on the pad. also, leaving out a weighted pan of water might lure it out.

but likely-est, as you already mentioned, is that it crawled off into a tiny space, and i'd just make that mental adjustment. that way if you *do* find him or her, it's a good surprise.

i know that this may not help, but you should have seen the look on mike's face when i read this out loud to him, given the fact that he was hoping to room with you next Monday so as to keep gaming...
