Dysfunctional Little People

So, there's this toy series by Fisher-Price called Little People, which has all kinds of sets available showing different situations around a small town -- school, stores, etc. Rhys has only two of these sets -- a farm and a construction site. If we play with them together, I guess we can play Suburban Sprawl. Or maybe Corn Syrup Factory.

Why I'm glad to know velvetpage

velvetpage is a woman I really respect a lot. We come from rather different worldviews, philosophically. But I think in a lot of ways we both agree on the things that are important in this world: thoughtfulness, family, taking care of the people you care about, and being kind rather than mean-spirited when you have the choice. She's the kind of person who finds the things you have in common, not the things that separate you, and can engage you on that level. I love hearing stories in her journal about her daughter. I envy her Canadianness when it comes to maternity leave and the like. She's gentle in the world, but fierce when people she cares about are in trouble.
