I'm just so alternative! :P

So, some weeks ago, I got email from the Wife Swap folks, because they were looking to humiliate feature furry families. I just got another email from them, this time because they are looking for families who run small occult businesses.

Making fun of people like me is just hot in America right now, I guess. :P

Those Bastards!

[identity profile] beetiger.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, no, it's cool. I'm sure someone wants to be humiliated on National TV for $20K. Just not me.

[identity profile] cowboy-r.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
For $20k?! Dude... that would buy a lot of humiliation for me....

[identity profile] beetiger.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Just get a wife and some kids ages 6-18 and then do something non-mainstream. :P

[identity profile] cowboy-r.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
1) It's impossible for someone who can't even get a date to get a wife, so far as I can tell.

2) I'd've had to start this impossible task 7-10 years ago.

[identity profile] cricketshay.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You could marry someone who is not mainstream who has kids in that age bracket. :P

[identity profile] lediva.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Think of it as the non-mainstream version of marrying for a green card.

"We both want to be on national TV. Well... if we get married, we can accomplish that and walk away with about $7500 each, after taxes."

[identity profile] cricketshay.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
hehehehhehe that is funny!

[identity profile] cricketshay.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Me either. I often wonder why people do it. Maybe they need the money.

I have never really watched the show, but my cousin sent me a Youtube link with the fantatic chrisitian lady freaking out all over the place.

[identity profile] marrionettegirl.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm a bad person,
i laughed histaricly at her,
for a long time,
and i waited for the commercials to be over,
so i could watch the replays.
(and i still think its funny)

[identity profile] cricketshay.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a bad person too. I laughed my ass off. I thought it was very funny she ripped up the check and then later accepted the money.

Figures. :P

[identity profile] marrionettegirl.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
thats not right!
{insert angry muddering here}

Either that, or mainstream America is getting so burnt out of the old cliches that the producers need to up the ante and find newer, more shocking types of families to ridicule. Soon, they shall tire of you, too!

Or, dare I think it, people are becoming more tolerant in secret.

[identity profile] barberio.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if they worked out that furries were far too ordinary really, and decided to go after 'more interesting weirdos'. :)

[identity profile] beetiger.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm sure they got their furries. Didn't hear who bit at the 20K though. The family furries I know of didn't, though.

[identity profile] runnerwolf.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Gee other than the fact I have no kids I would be so boring for that. Yes I am poly and I have a shamanic practice. But really, our household is pretty boring.

[identity profile] beetiger.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing if they do polyfolk, they'll do a family that has a male partner with a secondary so the swapped wife can get all worked up about it.

[identity profile] runnerwolf.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I am sure. Granted my husband has a "secondary" that in many ways is a co-wife.

[identity profile] wordslinger.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Not only "humiliate yourself for $20k", but "out yourself to your family, your work, your neighbors, the city government, etc, etc."

No thank you. Some things are beyond stupid.

Just look at how that weird Christian lady has become a long-term national laughingstock.

[identity profile] lediva.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
...well, I feel like Marguerite (weird Christian lady) has become a laughingstock for reasons other than her just being Christian. I mean, if she'd gone on the show and not completely lost her shit all over national TV, nobody would know or care who she is.

[identity profile] cktraveler.livejournal.com 2006-09-16 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Roger Ebert once lamented that probably the single greatest influence on American pop culture is Don Rickles. :P
