BPAL Reviews, again
Bewitched
In the bottle: Fruity berry.
On the skin: Blackberry tea. The Blackberry Sage one from Republic of Tea, if my scent memory serves me. Calming and mood-lifting, and very pleasant. Only lasts about an hour on my skin before disappearing completely.
Black Opal
In the bottle: Not sure. Mild, sweet wood rot?
On the skin: I can kind of see where the mineral vibe could be coming from here, but I still get mostly sweet rot, without any woody notes to support it underneath. After a bit , it changes to kind of a creamy powdery vanilla sweet rot. Makes me feel vaguely unwashed when I sniff myself. Not really appealing. As I keep sniffing it, it's got a lot of the same notes as Underpants, which I love, but more subtle, and on me, misbalanced. Not for me.
Lurid
In the bottle: Musk and dark fruit
On the skin: Really intriguing and blended. The currant and the musk are the dominant notes on me, and the greeny lavender is tying them together. For some reason this smells very urban. Not synthetic, and not sophisticated, but modern somehow? No grassy or outdoor notes at all. I keep coming back to it. Settles into a simpler berry musk after a bit, but still really nice.
Sugar Cookie ('05, LE)
In the bottle: Sweet syrupy notes with a waxy butter note underneath.
On the skin: This explodes right away with an artificial butter note that I find slightly rancid, with sugar underneath. After a while, it settles in to a moderately good synthetic cookie dough scent, with a balance of sweet and buttery notes, and the rancid note is gone. A bit of a baked/brown note kicks in last, and then it really does smell rather like walking by those kiosks in malls. However, I think I spent too much time in the food industry trying to make low fat sweet things seem rich and creamy, and beverages taste like baked goods. I don't think I can wear this. Swap. EDIT: Or don't swap. Looks like Rhys remembered I wore this yesterday and demanded I put it on him this morning. “I want smelling like a cookie!”
Tiger Lily
In the bottle: Honey and florals.
On the skin: A very sweet and simple floral, pretty and golden. Definitely mood-lifting for me.
