Procrastination, squared
I'm procrastinating about job hunting, by planning potential procrastination about getting a job. I'm thinking about how I might want to do the Great American Roadtrip after the job ends, if I can't collect a single traveling companion for the whole time. I wouldn't want to drive it alone.
I've looked into it, and for $400, I could get a thirty day Greyhound pass for the US and Canada. For $675, I could get a 30-day Amtrak pass for the US and Canada, although for that one, I need to make sure I actually go to Canada sometime on the trip. I think it's something about only being able to sell that kind of fare to international travelers.
And I *think* I know some folks who don't live on the coasts! I'm imagining a week down the east coast, a week across the southern half of the country, a week up the west coast, and a week across the northern part of the country, with a stop in Canada, with the details decided by a balance of reasonable itineraries and desired visits.
Of course, I'd need to figure in the cost of the laptop with the wireless modem, and the nice digital cam, so I can write while I'm traveling.
On the other hand, I could skip this and just get a job right away, or stay home and fail to get a job and whine about it.

I say go for it. It's something I want to do, someday, when I have a few months with nothing else to do.

2) Amtrack comes through Tucson. I don't have a spare bed, but I do have a spare bedroom... if you don't mind sleeping on a camping pad, you're welcome to stay with me for a night or three.
Just FYI...
Just saying...

You don't know how much I wish I'd had the money to take advantage of that time I was laid off. Though, I *did* go to Chicago someplace I'd never been, and to Philly on my own, something I'd never done before.
I need to live vicariously through you. :)
