I had a weird little experience this morning, while I was filling my car with gas. I'd decided to wander into the convenience store part of the station to see what they were carrying in the cooler case this week (it's a work thing), and stretch a bit. A young man came up to flirt with me, something which happens on occasion. But when he commented on how good I looked, he asked me if I worked out, or was a runner, because my legs looked like it, that I had very attractive muscle structure. (Not quite his words, but that was the meaning, I think.) I laughed, told him I wasn't, wished him a good morning, and went back to my car. He followed me until I got in.

The only other time something similar has ever happened to me was last year, at WorldCon. I was playing Chrononauts in the gaming room; the player next to me noted "how nice the muscles in my arms" were, and wanted to know if I lifted weights. He wanted to arm wrestle me. The game I'd been trying to run had fallen through, so I agreed. I don't think I'd arm wrestled since middle school. I was less than half his weight, and couldn't even come close to winning. I won when he put his weaker arm against my stronger, and two fingers against my whole hand, and that was hard work. We spent perhaps half an hour together. He obviously enjoyed it, in a less-than-innocent way. I was amused.

I don't get it. I'm not athletic at all, although I try to walk when I can. I have trouble opening jars with the caps screwed on tight. I need help handling 5-gallon containers of sugar. My body type is, overall, scrawny. I don't have any problem with men with muscle fetishes, but why would I possibly attract their attention?

Some of you have met me in person. Am I missing something?

I don't see it. You have less muscle than I do (kidding). I think he was shining you on. He just wanted some honey? Laughs!

It's what's inside that counts, anyway. Right?
