[personal profile] sythyry goes back to work tomorrow. It's been a real pleasure to have him at home with me and the baby these last few weeks, especially in those hours in which I'm feeling like breastfeeding is taking up 100% of my energy. He's been doing the majority of the cooking and cleaning and shopping, and a good part of the non-feeding childcare too, taking care of both me and the little guy. We've had a good chance to gel as a family as well, the three of us, and I'm amazed at how little conflict we've ended up with so far. Go us.

However, I'm not quite on my own yet. My mother's showing up tomorrow and staying until sometime in the weekend to help out. She's really good with kids, having become a professional nanny after my siblings and I grew up, and I'm sure I'll be able to learn a lot and gain a lot of confidence from her. On the other hand, I'm not sure I've spent more than 24 hours or so in the same place as my mom since I left for college, and I'm not really sure how a week of her in my home will go. I suspect a lot of those questions you can avoid in short visits are going to come up after a day or two of being together, and I should probably be better prepared on how I plan to handle them without fumbling. I'm also kind of confused about how much like a guest I should be treating her, how much I need to fuss to take care of her while she is helping to take care of me.

Still, three generations in the house for a bit is kind of cool, at least conceptually.

Breastfeeding was *so* hard for me those first few wee...months. But it gets easier and easier and even more amazing the longer you do it. Keith made a comment to me today that while in the beginning I could only nurse sitting up with a boppy, I can now nurse "upside-down in outer space". ;) So yeah that's my little anecdote. When are we going to see pictures?

I don't know when you'll get pictures of [livejournal.com profile] beetiger nursing upside-down in outer space... I don't think we're quite there yet, either nursingly or astronautically.

That's one thing I regret.. for a few months after she was born, I didn't make the effort to get a 5 generation photo of my family. Rachael, Me, her grandmother, her great grandmother, and her great great grandmother. It would have been something.

5 generation pics are neat.
I've got one with me as the youngest one of the group.
