Annoyances

On the bill I got today, there were $900 worth of charges to retail locations in Providence, RI, in stunningly even numbers ($400.00 + $500.00, exactly), on my credit card, from the day I got home from BiCamp.

The card company's sending me an affadavit and expects to get it cleared from my account within a week, so it really just was a matter of a phone call, since it's not a debit card and so no actual money was taken from me. But I really hope no one at BiCamp rifled through my things and tried to scam me, despite the timing and usage location. I hope this was just a coincidence, or maybe the guy at the gas station or something. I don't like thinking that people in that community would be stealing from each other.

Agreed, but these days there are an awful lot of people acting selfishly and without thought to consequences... Let's hope the credit card company can track this down.

Maybe it's time to get a new credit card number?

I'll be honest, as long as they clear *me*, I don't care very much whether the card company finds the culprit or not. But I know people to whom this has happened who have debit cards rather than credit cards, and they're sometimes out of money they really need until the bank figures out the situation. There's no way to tell which is which by looking at the card.

Sad to say, it happens in every community. I know the same thing has happened to folk in the con-going crew, as well as at SCA events. We like to think that our 'group', whatever it might be, is *family*...and we hate to think of our family stealing from us. *sigh* But every group has 'em, I suppose...

I wouldn't discount the possibility it happened at BiCamp, but there are enough other ways it could have happened that I wouldn't focus too much on that possibility.

What sorts of things were the charges for? How many different stores?

The stunningly even numbers thing seems peculiar.

Good luck getting this sorted out! *Hugs*

Two charges, on the same day: one for the GAP in the Providence Place Mall, and one for the "Providence Place Group", which I am guessing means one of the mall kiosks that allows you to buy gift certificates good for any store in the mall.

Even numbers = purchased gift cards, I figure.

Well, I'm thinking toward 'discouraging others from trying it again'-- cut them off at the knees! Crush their bones, break their spirits!

I'm really surprised they can do that.

Charge stuff, from stores, without a physical card. I guess they sweet-talked the store clerks or something.

I rather hope it wasn't a BiCamp person, it seems . . . not in line with all the vibes I've felt there.
