Good question! My guess would be it's still a flavoring agent in regular Coke, too, just not as pronounced. I also lost track of all the other stuff Coke owns, but it might be used in some other cream soda or something made by a subsidiary. Does Coke own anyone who makes a Dr. Pepper clone?
Actually, Bee, have you ever read about the early history of Coca-Cola? It's a fascinating, sordid story... I'm not deeply schooled in it, but I've read the account in William Poundstone's Big Secrets, which is a book that would probably interest a food scientist to begin with. Read it yet? It's full of wild tales of guerrilla chromatography. :)
