Between this and your "triple yellow day" article... I know this isn't a very practical notion, but have you ever considered doing a column or even just a little anthology. Ken Nordine, the guy who used to do that great Word Jazz show on NPR, once did an album called "Colors." It was originally supposed to be an advertising project for some paint company, but it fell through and he made it his own project. He took twenty-some colors and wrote a little spoken-word song about each of them, working from the premise that each was in fact a person, chronicling their habits and behaviors. I can't help but think of a little book called "Flavors," with digressive little essays like this post, inspired by the historical and cultural contexts of the things we eat every day and take for granted. Cherries have their weird connotation of virginity, tomatoes were once thought poisoning, ginseng and ginger were revered, fennel was associated with witchcraft... I'm sure there's already a book like that, but I'd love to see what you'd bring to it.
