I just ordered a fresh batch of food for the snakes from The Mouse Factory.

As part of the "wait for the computer to process your order" type conversation, the woman with whom I spoke mentioned that the folks at Fear Factor ordered 3000 frozen mice to dump with some people in a tank of water for one of their challenges. They had to separate out a few black ones from the large number of white ones with their teeth or something.

I don't think this sounds all that scary to me. She said you could tell in the footage that the mice were still pretty much frozen when they dumped them in. And, I don't know, after rereading Fast Food Nation, I wouldn't be surprised if the mice were actually more sanitary that what the contestants could pick up at McDonald's.

Reminds me of a Penn and Teller special...

Teller had been locked into a see-through box. Penn said that he wanted to make the experience more 'interesting', so he threw a dozen rats into the box with Teller.

Teller was miming fear of the rats. The rats? They were happy as clams, wanted to cuddle up to Teller, and waaaaaay too obviously were pets.

I adore snakes, the only reason I can not have them as pets is because I also find mice and rats cute too and couldn't feed one to the other. :( I am okay when a cat catches a mouse or snake because at least there was a fighting chance, but ..

I know, I know, and yet I will eat steak. This is PURELY an emotional thing, don't sully it with logic please.

If you're not soft about fish and worms, you might try a snake in the garter/ribbon family. We've got two of those as well -- they're tiny and hyper and musk at you every time you pick them up, but they're pretty cute once they settle down. They even go fishing out of their own water bowl!

Definitely not as nice as cornsnakes for pets, but still pretty neat. If you are lucky, you can even catch one in your backyard!
