What is the optimal number of slices of bacon in a BLT?

2, broken in half so you have 4 half-strips. These will fit perfectly in your average sandwich bread so you get bacon in every bite.

How many will fit? Can you get larger slices of bread?

(Oddly enough, that's what I'm having for lunch today.)

4, or however many will fit across the bread.

I'm not sure. Perhaps this calls for an empirical study.

Depends on the thickness of the rashers. I use a minimum of six half-rashers, more if it's thinner bacon. Bacon is NOT just a flavoring on a BLT.

ALL THE BACON!

When I worked in restaurants, it was generally three slices of bacon.

I want my...I want my BLT....

Two slices of white toast,
That's the way you do it,
You lay the bacon on yer BLT.
Slice a tomato,
Add some leaves of lettuce,
Then spread some mayo on yer BLT...

(I can't take credit for this. Although I insta'd most of the words, I heard a similar concept on a "classic rock" radio station in, um, summer 1985 or thereabouts.)

One pound (or however many come in a package), provided you leave out the lettuce, tomato, and bread.

I am now thinking of a low(wer) carb BLT that is basically two sheets of woven bacon containing lettuce and tomato.

Is it wrong that I like that idea? 8)

No. It is not wrong at all. I am totally going to do this....

I think it's 4... but I'm a greedy gut.

The bread goes between the bacon, not the other way around!

Depends on bread size. I'd say usually around four.

Depends on bread size and type of bacon. I prefer lots and lots and lots of crispy bacon.

I'm trying to figure out how to do it without having it slip out of your hands from the grease. Or the innards squirting out cause you're holding it so tightly cause of the grease.

Well, we'll need to reduce the formula for assembling a BLT into terms of one variable, then we can take a derivative, set it to zero and compute the maximum return for ingredients. So I need to determine what the ratio of lettuce to bacon and tomato to bacon should be...

I say 4, or 11 if you're willing to knit it. :-)

You don't have to leave out the toppings, just knit the bacon! :-)
