WotC sent me a rather nice little battle mat, randomly. I think it might be because I’m an RPGA member, which is only because a few years ago at a con someone would not let me sit down at the table unless I filled out the RPGA paperwork. Maybe this makes up in part for all the silly vendor gifts I’m not getting this year since vendors put in their gift lists in August or so. Almost makes me want to run something tactical, though that’s totally not my gaming style.

I’m settling into the work thing much better now that I seem to have gotten the hang of the main route here and have been given some actual work. I’m still unclear about whether I’ve made a good decision taking what is clearly being framed here as a one-year contract position. But I left here contented last night.

The winter holiday season is coming, and unlike this time last year, I’m feeling extremely acquisitive. Part of me is tempted to take my severance money and go ahead and buy that 70 mpg Toyota Prius. Gods, I actually seem to want to buy grownup toys like cars and computers and digicams. What is happening to me? If you want to send me gifts, please send me useless, beautiful, handmade things. Fantasias of words and images. Things not available in any store. It will be better for my soul.

Will useless, beautiful, factory-extruded things be all right? In our home timeline, everybody has a desktop plastic instantiator... ;)
