I know this isn't really a pleasant smell, but the smell of microbial plates running through the autoclave is always one I find myself sniffing intentionally when it happens in a lab in which I'm working. Emotionally, it strikes me as a cross between the smell of baking bread, and the smell of fresh manure when you're driving out in the country. Just *right*, somehow.

I know "crisp" isn't a taste at all, but it's the way I remember the taste of matzo, which is only good in its right context, its right time of year, at which point I notice how much I've missed it, like an old friend with whom I've been out of touch.
