What the heck is "I'd hit it!" supposed to mean, anyway?

I have no clue. That was the question I had when I saw the meme too.

Well, it's clear from usage in the meme that it means 'I'd sleep with you'.

I've heard 'I'd hit that' to mean 'I would sleep with that person' elsewhere. The 'it' makes it weird, though.

I think it is a variation on 'tap that ass'. Yes, you would sleep with them.

I'd hit it means, "I would (insert favorite euphamism here) him/her/it." Yeah, it's an expression of sexual attraction/desire, but not a very flattering one. More do do with physical suitability than like/love/admiration.

Incidentally, McDonald's had an ad campaign a while back with a guy looking lustfully at a dollar-menu double-cheeseburger and saying, "Double cheeseburger? I'd hit it. I'm a dollar menu dude." Go figure.

Well, okay, yes, from context I figured that's what it meant. But why? And who actually would say that? To someone directly?

If I said that to yo, would you be amused? Or would you actually just, you know, *hit* me or something?

I suspect my reaction would be a raised eyebrow, a *thbpppt* and a suggestion that you refer to your girlfriend as something other than "it".

Maybe it's some sort of reference to hitting someone in the cervix when you hump?

Eek. That's very unappealing.

I first encountered it on imageboards, with the meaning of "it's good/sexy/pretty enough that I'd have sex with it," or by corollary, "I think it's pretty/sexy/good, even if you don't." Mind you, the "it" applies to a whole range of things...

I don't think it's that specific.

I believe the "it" refers to the bodily orifice being "hit", as opposed to the body/mind/soul to which it is attached.

i've laughted at many a person who's said that to me,
my reply is usualy,
"want me to hit you?"
followed by a punch in the arm :)

FARK (and presumably other public boards frequented by testosterone-poisoned types) used to have informal contests for the most entertaining way of delivering the line. My personal favorite was a picture of Richard Dawson as the host of Family Feud, yelling "Survey says!" and the #1 answer was "I'd Hit It!"

It's essentially a deliberately vulgar way of saying that one finds a person, thing, or situation attractive. It is the standard reply to someone posting a picture of an attractive woman or a link to a porn site; it is just about as often used sarcastically when a picture of an unattractive thing is posted. (As with all areas of our culture, sarcasm comes to dominate honesty among the bereft-of-wit ...)
