Xoco, the matron of my cornsnake empire, just had a clutch of eggs, but she seems to have retained one egg inside her. Anyone have any idea what I'm supposed to do about that? It can't be good for her!
Oh, dear. Do you have a local vet who will see exotics? That'd be my recommendation, although I'm sure you've already thought of that. Good luck to Xoco!
Hello! A mutual friend directed my attention here. The condition is called dystocia, or colloquially "egg binding". It's fairly common, actually, and corn snakes are one of the species known for this.
Fortunately, for female snakes that have laid some eggs as yours has, the general practice is to wait a couple of days to see what happens. After that -- if the last eggs are not laid, it's time for the vet.
